huge, rich wine for the vintage yet very fresh and youthful. The fruit jumps out of the glass with spice, plum and cedar character. Full-bodied with masses of fruit and tannins and a long, long finish. Needs some time; better after 1997.--The Bordeaux 50. ?JS

Grosser, rustikaler Pomerol mit viel Aromatik. Dreimal verkostet. 17/20 vorbei

A top success for the vintage, the 1983 Latour a Pomerol is among the richest, most powerfully constructed, broodingly opaque, and enormous Pomerols from the 1983 vintage. It has remained big, brawny, ripe, and muscular, although the tannins have melted away. The bouquet, filled with scents of mocha, chocolate, and plums, is a delight. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 5/91.

Château Latour à Pomerol
Château Latour à Pomerol is another property that fits under the renowned JP Moueix family umbrella. While the ownership of the estate resides with a charitable foundation, the Fondation de Foyers de Charite de Chateauneuf de Galaure, Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix has acted as manager of the château for over 40 years. Along with the family’s other top Bordeaux châteaux, Latour à Pomerol has become one of the leading Pomerol vineyards. The 8-hectare vineyard is made up of two parcels: the first, Les Grandes Vignes, is situated close to the church of Pomerol; the second is located on the western side of the Pomerol Plateau. The charming cru, like many Right Bank wines, remained relatively unknown until the budding wine critic, Robert Parker wrote about it in the early 1990s. Today, Château Latour à Pomerol’s wines offer a more opulent expression of the appellation, producing supple, ripe and richly plummy Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends.
