A terrific effort from an estate that was long one of Saint-Émilion's sleeping giants, the 2019 Laroque unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, licorice, loamy soil, rose petals and sweet tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with succulent aids, powdery tannins and a seamless, integrated profile. It's well worth seeking out.

Château Laroque
With a history dating as far back as the 12th century, the recent renaissance of Château Laroque began in the mid 1930s when the Beaumartin family purchased the property. Entirely redoing the cellar and replanting the vineyards, these grand efforts paid off with the estate’s promotion to Grand Cru Classé status in 1996. Today, Laroque stands as one of the most beautiful châteaux on the Right Bank, with striking architectural structures and impressively kept gardens. Planted to 87% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, the vineyards occupy an area of 61 hectares, making it one of the largest estates in Saint-Émilion. The resulting wines embody the property’s unique terroir, showing silky aspects that are both elegant and balanced. Carefully blended and aged in 50% new French oak barriques, the final wines are made to showcase the natural and genuine character of the region.
