Another sleeper of the vintage from this over-achieving estate, the fleshy, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2004 offers plenty of creme de cassis, mulberry, and cherry fruit as well as a notion of graphite. Medium to full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, and straightforward, this well-made St.-Emilion should drink nicely for 10-12+ years.
Producer
Château Grand Mayne
Situated to the north-west of Saint-Émilion, Château Grand Mayne is known for its deeply-colored, rich, aromatic wines. Since the 1930s this historic estate has been owned and managed by the Nony family, today, Marie-Françoise Nony and her two sons, Jean Antoine and Damien are at helm. Situated on the edge of the famed limestone plateau, Grand Mayne is home to 17 hectares of vineyards, planted to Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Michel Rolland has been a consultant for this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé property since 1973. The resulting wines are quality, full-bodied reds, and with the increased use of new oak they have developed a classic Mayne character, displaying lush flavors of cassis and liquorice.
