87 Robert Parker
This estate, which tends to turn out forward, soft Pauillacs, has made a firm, structured wine. The color is a healthy dark ruby with purple nuances. The nose offers up aromas of cassis, dusty, earthy notes, tobacco leaf, cedar, and spice. Medium-bodied, with excellent depth and ripeness, and the Cabernet Sauvignon component dominating its personality, this is a fine Grand-Puy-Ducasse that should be reasonably priced. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2015.

A bit tough, but shows interesting yet reserved aromas and flavors of cherry and raspberry and mineral. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a short finish. Best after 2000. 13,380 cases made. ?JS

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse
Planted across the best land in Pauillac, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse owns 40-hectares of vineyards consisting of three large plots bordering those of Mouton, Lafite and Pontet-Canet. The unusual scattered pattern of the property owes its brilliance to the estate’s founder Pierre Ducasse, a distinguished lawyer who pieced together this collection of lots with land he inherited or purchased in the 18th century. Currently under the ownership of a subsidiary of the Groupe Crédit Agricole, the CA Grands Crus company since 2004, the estate has entered a new phase, noted by the upswing in quality. Classified as a Fifth Growth in the famous 1855 ranking, the estate has now integrated certified sustainable farming and impeccable harvesting practices. Today, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse produces exemplary Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends made in the classic Pauillac style. Grand-Puy Ducasse, is a legendary fine wine, renowned for its aromatic complexity, glorious structure and ageing capacity.
