Figeac 2010 300cl

This is phenomenal on the nose with blackberries, fresh cep mushrooms, forest fruit, and earth. Turns to hazelnuts and dark berries. Subtle. Breathtaking. It's full-bodied on the palate, with superb tannins that last for minutes. The flavor is subtle yet incredible. Love the texture. It is the same wonderful quality level as 2009. This is so fabulous to taste now, but so much better in 2018.

Tiefes Purpur, satt in der Mitte, Granatschimmer am Rand. Geniales Bouquet, feine Kräuternoten, rote Pflaumen und Johannisbeeren, feine Ruby-Port-Nuancen, sehr homogen im Ansatz. Eleganter Gaumenbeginn, viel Souplesse und stoffiges, veloursartiges Extrakt zeigend, guter Rückhalt, zeigt Parallelen zum eigenen 2001er. Nachdem ich rund 50 Saint Emillions degustiert hatte, degustierte ich ihn nochmals in aller Ruhe. Es gibt wenige Crus in diesem Jahr die so harmonisch und mit so viel Charme daher kommen. Wer in diesem Budget-Rahmen Weine sucht, der muss ihn auf die Einkaufsliste nehmen. Drei Mal verkostet. (19/20). 12: Recht dunkles Granat-Purpur, aussen ganz fein aufhellend. Berauschendes und gleichzeitig sehr feines Bouquet, waldige Süsse und ein Hauch von ganz reifen Kirschen, Waldbeeren und auch süssen Amarenakirschen, Irish-Moosgabletten dahinter. Im Gaumen samtig, also mit veloursartiger, ganz feiner, homogener Textur, alles mit einer sensationellen Balance. Grosser Figeac der zu einer Legende heranwächst und dann weit über seinem 82er und 90er liegen wird, alleine schon von der Kraft und der kaum spürbaren Konzentration her.

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Figeac bursts from the glass with gregarious scents of baked blueberries, black cherry compote and chocolate box with hints of camphor, pencil lead and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has beautifully ripe, velvety tannins and bold freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and layered.

This is very tight, showing a prominent roasted apple wood and bittersweet cocoa frame more today, though the core of dense currant paste, blackberry pâte de fruit and plum sauce waits in reserve. Gorgeous singed spice, anise and toasted fig bread notes flitter through the finish, though this needs some time in the cellar to resolve itself fully. A very distinctive, structured expression of St.-Emilion. Best from 2016 through 2035. –JM
