19 Rene Gabriel

Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Doisy-Daëne has a very attractive nose with perfumed apricot blossom, white peach and honey all infused with cold stone scents. The palate is very well balanced with beautifully judged acidity. This feels harmonious in the mouth, almost Coutet-like in style with a long, lightly spiced finish. This is an excellent Doisy-Daene from Denis Dubourdieu.

Masses of crushed grape, honey and hints of clove and nutmeg. Full-bodied, very sweet and very lively, with lots of acidity and spicy fruit. Long and flavorful, with loads of passion fruit flavor. Best after 2012. 3,750 cases made. — JS

Good full, bright yellow. Honey and marzipan on the rather stunted nose. Then supersweet, dense and tactile, but with the ripe pineapple and marzipan flavors currently muted by sulfur dioxide. Shows the power of the vintage but will need time to express itself.

Château Doisy-Daëne
Château Doisy-Daëne, included amongst the Second Growths in the 1855 Classification, is located on the Barsac limestone plateau in the Sauternes appellation. It has belonged to the Dubourdieu family since 1924. Four generations have made fine white wines here from father to son: Georges (1924-1948), Pierre (1949-1999) and Denis Dubourdieu since the 2000 vintage – assisted by his sons, Fabrice and Jean-Jacques. The family is committed to defending and promoting Doisy-Daëne's image around the world. Denis Dubourdieu is also a professor of oenology at Bordeaux University and an internationally renowned consultant. Château Doisy-Daëne's 17.2 hectares of vines (87% Sémillon and 13% Sauvignon Blanc) are over 40 years old. The wines have their own special style, with bright fruit concentrated by "noble rot" as well as lively acidity, excellent balance, and delicate flavors. Doisy-Daëne's much-appreciated personality reflects both its excellent limestone terroir and a long family tradition of quality.
