Tiefes Purpur, satt in der Mitte, Granatschimmer am Rand. Dezent kühles Bouquet, Cabernetwürze und blaubeerige Fruchttendenzen. Im Gaumen stoffig, gut stützendes Extrakt, aromatisches Finale. Endlich wieder einmal ein etwas überzeugender Citran.

A tangy, taut style, with lively damson plum, Campari and red currant notes framed by subtle toast. This darkens a little through the finish, but stays on the sinewy side. Drink now through 2017. –JM

Château Citran
Château Citran has a history dating as far back as the 13th century. The estate remained under the Donissan de Cirtan family’s ownership until 1832, when the last heir sold the property. Today, the château is owned by the Merlauts, who are reaping the benefits of previous Japanese proprietors’ restorations. Situated on the edge of the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, the Citran vineyards stretch over 100-hectares wide, and benefit from the maritime-like Médoc climate due to its vicinity to the Gironde estuary and Bay of Biscay. Idyllically located, the sustainably farmed property is sheltered from the westerly and north-westerly winds by the coastal pine forests. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plantings evenly share the land. The tranquility of this château is echoed in their Cru Bourgeois classified wines, they are velvety clarets with long-lasting finishes.
