Château Boyd-Cantenac
The Boyd family was a prominent family of Belfast merchants, exporters of wool to be more exact. The fall of the wool market led them to emigrate to the mainland. They settled in Bordeaux, acquiring the Cantenac vineyard in 1754. The vineyard was taken over by John Lewis Brown of Château Brown and later by the Ginestet family. Since 1932, Château Boyd-Cantenac has belonged to the Guillemet family. Lucien Guillemet is currently at the head of the estate having left Château Giscours in 1996, where he worked as general manager to better focus on his own property. Covering an area of 17 hectares in the heart of the Margaux appellation, the vineyard lies on fine and well-draining siliceous gravel, which warms the soils and allows the vines to develop deep roots. Depending on the vintage, the vineyard produces between 50,000-90,000 bottles per year.
