The palate is very crisp and nicely structured on the entry. The acidity is very well judged, and there is a sense of effortless charm in the silky smooth, lightly spiced finish. Everything here is just ticking along nicely. Excellent. Tasted February 2017.88 Wine SpectatorShows very good intensity of blackberry and coffee bean on the nose. Full-bodied, with slightly austere tannins and a long finish. A little hollow midpalate. Almost minerally. There's a lot of wood and cool fruit character?a bit too much new wood for me. Wait and see. Best after 2012. ?JS Producer Château AngélusLess than a kilometer from the memorable Saint-Émilion bell tower, Château Angélus sits on the south-facing hillside of the 26-hectare vineyard. The estate stands as a representation and continuation of eight generations of the Boüard de Laforest family. This has consistently been one of the most esteemed Saint-Émilion estates in the past 10 to 15 years, however, in the 1954 Classification while they were already awarded as a Grand Cru Classé, the property was upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1996. Their wines have been pioneered to be richer and more concentrated, with accents of black currant and plum fruit. They are nonetheless, well-balanced, oaked wines to enjoy every day.
