Château Lamarque
One of the grander feudal châteaux (some parts dating from the 11th and 12th centuries), this impressive property is located conveniently between châteaux Margaux and Lafite. It has been owned by a series of noble families, from lords to earls to counts. Indeed, even today it is owned by a marquis, the Marquis Brunet d'Evry, a noble family, who originated from Manosque in Provence (12th-15th centuries) before moving to Burgundy in the 16th century where they were mayors for the city of Beaune for over 50 years. Today, Pierre-Gilles Brunet Gromand Evry and his wife Marie-Hélène are the owners of this fine château. Their vines are divided into 3 parcels and from these vines, they produce two reds under the château-label - Château de Lamarque and D de Lamarque, a wine produced from their young vines and with a dominance of Merlot (60%). Their consulting oenologists are Jacques and Eric Boissenot, perhaps the greatest (yet discreet) oenologists of the region, who consult for most of the First Growths and top Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth growths as well.
