Caronne St. Gemme 1998 75cl

This Cru Bourgeois dates back to the mid-17th century and is only a stone's throw from Gruaud Larose and Lagrange. It has been owned by the Borie-Nony family since the 1900s. It covers close to 23 hectares of vines which are planted to a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot and Petit Verdot. Seventy percent of its harvest is picked by hand while the remaining 30% is picked by machine. They ferment their grapes in temperature-controlled concrete vats and the wines are left to macerate for approximately 3 weeks. The wine is then aged in 225-litre barrels of which 30% are new for 12-15 months.
