17/20 1997 – 2010

Very fine, this has attractive aromas of fruit and dried herbs, fine tannins and a long finish of vanilla, mineral and mint character. Drinkable now, but better in 1999.

Weediness and a slight shortness in the finish are the only flaws in an otherwise relatively good effort from Latour a Pomerol. The color is a deep, dark garnet with some amber at the edge. A big, spicy, sweet nose of black fruits, tobacco, espresso, and stewed roasted vegetables is followed by a relatively fat, ripe, medium-bodied wine with low acidity and some sweet tannins in the finish. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Last tasted. 1/02

Château Latour à Pomerol
Château Latour à Pomerol is another property that fits under the renowned JP Moueix family umbrella. While the ownership of the estate resides with a charitable foundation, the Fondation de Foyers de Charite de Chateauneuf de Galaure, Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix has acted as manager of the château for over 40 years. Along with the family’s other top Bordeaux châteaux, Latour à Pomerol has become one of the leading Pomerol vineyards. The 8-hectare vineyard is made up of two parcels: the first, Les Grandes Vignes, is situated close to the church of Pomerol; the second is located on the western side of the Pomerol Plateau. The charming cru, like many Right Bank wines, remained relatively unknown until the budding wine critic, Robert Parker wrote about it in the early 1990s. Today, Château Latour à Pomerol’s wines offer a more opulent expression of the appellation, producing supple, ripe and richly plummy Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends.
