Presents a blast of bright plum and cassis fruit, along with a noticeable savory edge and notes of violet and white pepper. The acidity is a bit perky through the finish, but this should be pretty if it settles in.—J.M.

The 2014 Ferrière has a floral nose: wilted rose petals and a touch of Asian spice complementing the slightly muted black fruit. The palate is smooth and caressing on the entry with well-judged acidity, though it needed more substance and a touch more grip on the finish. This will probably be one of the earlier-drinking 2014 Margaux, but it will give pleasure over the next ten years, possibly more.<br/>

Within that time, the château was included in the 1855 Médoc Classification, ranking as a Third Growth, emphasizing the excellence behind this smaller producer. The Villars family arrived in 1988, taking the following decades to reinvest in the property, improving the château’s already high-quality standards. Today, the 12-hectare property has been completed converted to biodynamic farming, receiving their Organic Agriculture Certification in 2015. Claire Villars Lurton continues as the driving force behind Château Ferrière, producing rich, intense, and concentrated wines. With minimal fining and malolactic fermentation in barrel, the estate’s top claret, Ferrière is aged for sixteen to eighteen months in 60% new oak resulting in a refined and impressive red
