A brilliant wine, and one of the stars of the vintage, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection boasts aromas of blueberry pie, blackberries, cassis and white flowers. This full-bodied, velvety textured, delicious 2011 is already drinking well, and should continue to do so for 10-12 years. It is a terrific success for the vintage. Though the Wagner family is not quite the pioneer that Louis Martini, Charles Krug, Beaulieu Private Reserve, Ridge Vineyards and a few others are, they have long farmed and made the wines at Caymus Vineyards.

Caymus Vineyards
The Wagner family has been farming and producing wines for quite some time now, since the 1940s to be exact. Founder, Charles Wagner established the Caymus estate with only several holdings of vineyards. By 1972 however, with the addition of a winery, they produced their first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon consisting of 240 cases. Caymus has come a long way since its humble beginnings, still entirely owned by the Wagner family, Charles’ son, Chuck along with his children, sons Charlie and Joe and daughter, Jenny run the 124-hectare estate. Their wines have a great vocation for aging, the Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon – one of California’s top reds, can benefit from five to ten years in the bottle after being released. Only the best fruit, harvested lot by lot are vinified with extended maceration on the skins before being aged in new French oak make up this Cabernet Sauvignon flagship.
