This is beautiful and decadent with notes of ripe red and dark berries with sweet spices, bark and hints of dried leaves. Full-bodied and tight with finely polished and compact tannins that run the whole length of the wine. Long and firm with granite-like presence on the finish. A little chewy at the end. A blend of sangiovese and merlot. Try after 2026.
96 Wine Spectator
Plum, blackberry and earth flavors show a hint of caramel in this suave, muscular red, framed by toasty oak. This feels fluid and open, until the dense, beefy tannins unleash their presence on the finish. Persistent and fresh, with a long aftertaste. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2045.

The Castello di Ama 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia is a single-vineyard expression of Sangiovese. The wine is dark and concentrated in this vintage with lovely tones of ripe blackberry, baked plum, sweet earth and black rose. It has all the classic aromas of the variety, only in this case they are delivered with extra heft and push thanks to the warm and sunny growing season. This vintage remains slightly more accessible overall.

Castello di Ama
Castello di Ama, located in Gaiole, is a premium winery in the heart of Chianti Classico. Founded in the 1970s by four Roman families, Castello di Ama has been run since 1982 by trusted winemaker Marco Pallanti and his wife, Lorenza Sebasti, who is also the CEO of the winery. While Castello di Ama is known today for producing Tuscany’s first great Merlot – their L’Apparita, they also craft two smaller versions of single-vineyard Chianti Classico blends, Vigneto La Casuccia and Vigneto Bellavista. This reference-point Tuscan grower-producer is made up of 210-hectares. Of that there are 75-hectares under vine, 45-hectares of olive trees and 100-hectares of woodland and has some of the most beautiful vistas of the Chianti Classico region. Castello di Ama creates extraordinary wines with seven reds, one white, one rosé and one sweet wine currently in production.
