Soft, floral aromas of rose and peony segue to cherry, strawberry, spice and tobacco flavors. Rich and lacy in texture, with a solid grip of tannins on the back end. Best from 2018 through 2030. 2,000 cases made.

Caparzo's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva presents a very different taste profile compared to the estate's newly released wines from the warmer 2011 vintage. This was a more balanced growing season and you get a greater sense of power and determination in this wine as a result. The bouquet is compact and expressive but it also holds back. In fact, I'm not sure that this wine is showing its full potential at the moment. It seems to need more time to flesh out. I suggest drinking it after 2018.
Producer
Caparzo
Originally known as the Ca’ Pazzo or the Madman’s House, this cooler Montalcino property is now home to the respected Caparzo wine estate. Established in the late 1960s, by a group of Tuscan wine enthusiasts, the then run-down vineyards were quickly restored, modernized and expanded. Within a few years Caparzo made a name for itself in the Brunello market. Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini bought the estate in 1998, and she continues to manage the 190-hectare property with the help of her two children, Igino and Alessandra. Divided amongst several sites, the 76-hectares of vineyards lie mostly in Montalcino, with a mere 5-hectares in Buonconvento. Elisabetta combines tradition with innovation, crafting expressive Montalcino wines of the upmost quality. Enologist Vittorio Fiore leads vinification producing many impressive reds. Amongst their top Brunellos, distinguished for its elegance, textural beauty and overall finesse, the single-vineyard Brunello from the La Casa is one of the country’s best.
