The 2010 Neo is excellent, with fresh fruit aromas, mixing red and black berries with black pepper, vanilla and other spices and developing a floral undertone after aeration. It’s elegant and complex, very well balanced, pleasant and easy to drink. Proof that you can make a drinkable red with a judicious 20-month elevage. Bravo! Drink now-2020.
Producer
Bodegas Neo
Unique and modern, Bodegas Neo is Ribera del Duero’s greatest up-and-comer. Producing the region’s best new-wave Tempranillos, Bodegas Neo can now even rival Spain’s renowned Bodegas Vega Sicilia. Located in the Castillo de la Vega zone of the region, Neo boasts 10 hectares of vineyards planted to Tempranillo, locally known as Tinta Fina. These old-vines range from 50 to 80-years-old and add a great concentration and depth to their productions. The bodega was established in 1999, by three childhood friends, Javier Ajenjo, José Luís Simón and Julio César Conde who wanted to produce a wine they truly adored. With the help of brilliant oenologist, Isaac Fernández Montaña, the wines of Bodegas Neo shine with an undeniable modern take, emphasizing the character of the wines’ fruit and ageworthy structure. The bodega also houses a contemporary recording studio - NeoMusicBox – which underlines the founders’ efforts to combine the world of wine with that of music.
