Critics scores
94 By Robert Parker
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the La Cueva del Contador cuvee, which in the 2011 vintage comes through as a powerful version of a Cote de Nuits, with red and black fruits, vanilla and cinnamon and a balanced, soft palate with intense flavors, good acidity and harmony. It should develop more complexity with time in bottle, but it-s approachable now. Drink 2014-2020.
Producer
Bodega Contador
We are excited to offer for the first time the wines from Bodega Contador, one of the most exciting and dynamic estates from Spain today. Owned and produced by Benjamin Romeo, long-time head winemaker at Artadi, the domaine exploded onto the Spanish wine scene in 2000, when his inaugural vintage of Contador was released, wowing Robert Parker and capturing 98 points. Since, he has been attracting worldwide media attention and many impressive scores - almost all in the mid- to high 90s (and beyond). We are currently offering three of his wines - all exceptional and delicious: La Cueva, a wine which combines elegance and power and is produced from free-run juice from multiple vineyard sites; La Viña De Andres Romeo, produced from a single vineyard site which is renowned for its intense, rich wines; and finally his pièce de resistance, Contador, a tour de force and the ultimate expression of his old vines and terroir. These incredible wines are some of Spain's greatest (limited production) bottles and well worth discovering.
