Black olive and berry character with loads of fruit and spices. Full body, round and silky tannins and a savory finish. A little tannic now, but this shows excellent fruit depth. Lovely purity to this new-wave style. Better in 2017.
Producer
Azienda Agricola Petra
Celebrated around the world for their production of Franciacorta sparkling wines from Bellavista, the Moretti family started their new Tuscan venture in 1997 – Azienda Agricola Petra. Based in Tuscany, the Petra estate lies close to the ancient village of Suvereto. Their vineyards are planted on the hills of Val di Corina, therefore Petra has the soul of Tuscan Maremma and the spirit of ancient times. This plot of land has quite a long vinous history, with vine-growing traditions dating back to the Greeks and Etruscans. Today, this modern and stunning property stands out as a top Tuscan wine producer, expressing the true quality of the terroir through the use of organic viticulture. Family-run by Vittorio Moretti and his daughter, Francesca, the state-of-the-art winery was designed by famed Swiss architect, Mario Botta. This stunning winery ports a geometric design which beautifully contrasts the orographic nature of the vineyard. The estate offers a wide range of elegant, yet powerful wines, including a fine Tuscan red made from 100% Syrah called Petra and a mighty Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend – Hebo.
