Antinori-Badia a Passignano
The synergism between the vinous and cultural worlds at Tenuta Badia a Passignano is the perfect example Tuscany’s flawless integration of both traditional and modern values. As one the of the most famed destinations for wine-enthusiasts, Chianti Classico sits in the heart of the most well-known wine-producing region. The 215-hectare property has belonged to Italy’s most beloved family, the Antinoris, since the late 1980s. With 56-hectares devoted to mostly Sangiovese growth, there are also smaller plots planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Housed in a medieval abbey in Sambuca Val di Pesa, just three-kilometers south of Antinori’s other estate, Tignanello, the Badia a Passignano estate remains their leading Chianti winery. As the abbey is still home to the Vallombrosano order, their wines are vinified in the cellars of Tignanello but still matured within the abbey. There is only one wine labeled under the Badia a Passignano name, their Chianti Classico Riserva preforming the best in its class. Aged in French-oak barrels, the palate is rich with supple balanced tannins, maintaining its freshness the wine is a fully expressive Sangiovese.
