Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) slips seductively out of the glass with perfumed scents of candied violets, chocolate-covered cherries, lavender and baked plums with nuances of redcurrants, forest floor, mossy bark and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has bags of grace and finesse with a super fine-grained frame and lovely freshness lifting the intense, perfumed fruits to a very long, mineral-tinged finished. Gorgeous.

The 2016 Beauséjour-Duffau Lagarrosse has quite a high-toned, precocious bouquet of blueberry, cassis and floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, and quite modern in style, presenting a velvety-smooth sheen and quite grippy tannins. The finish is dense at the moment, and maybe a little charmless, although I suspect it will age with style because the class is here. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Il 1985 è stato un importante punto di svolta per questa tenuta a sud di Saint-Émilion, quando Château Beauséjour ha migliorato il proprio livello di qualità diventando uno dei produttori più imponenti tra i Premier Grands Crus Classé. Dopo la grande svolta della proprietà, l'ingegner Pierre Bernault acquistò Château Beauséjour nel 2004, coronando il suo amore per il mondo del vino. Con 12 dei 15 ettari dedicati alla produzione di Merlot e Cabernet Franc, la famiglia Bernault ha continuato ad accrescere la propria fama di più grande produttore di vino della Montagna di Saint-Émilion. Consulenti del calibro di Stéphane Derenencourt, Michel Rolland e Nicolas Thienpont hanno influenzato ulteriormente lo stile classico dello Château, con vini dal corpo medio o ricco, caratterizzati dall'opulenza dei frutti neri e da tannini decisi che forgiano la struttura durante il periodo di invecchiamento.
