Guidalberto (2nd Vin) 2003 150cl

The 2003 Guidalberto (45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Sangiovese) is soft and supple on the palate, with attractive notes of candied cherries, smoke and tobacco. Showing a pliant, supple personality this classically proportioned medium-bodied wine is best enjoyed over the next six or seven years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2013. Niccolo Incisa della Rocchetta is upbeat about his 2003s. ?Of course it was a very hot, dry vintage, but under these circumstances Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc tended to perform better than other varietals such as Merlot. I am happy with the balance of our Sassicaia although clearly we can?t call it a ?classic? vintage. Sassicaia is a wine that needs bottle age to show its full potential and I am confident the 2003 will age well. Today it reminds me most of the 1978.?

Aromas of dark cherries, light toasted oak and green tobacco. Medium-bodied, with some light tannins and a tobacco aftertaste. A nice and balanced 2003. Best after 2006. 12,500 cases made. ?JS
