The 2013 Barrua is a beautifully balanced and seamless expression with dark fruit aromas that flow effortlessly from the bouquet. Those tones of blackberry, prune and dried fig segue to spice, tar, licorice and black olive. This vintage really works in terms of the intensity and the precision of the bouquet. The tannins are integrated, and the wine is layered and long lasting. Some 125,000 bottles were produced. Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Sleek and mouthwatering, this harmonious red features creamy tannins and layers of flavor, with black currant pâte de fruit, dried marjoram and smoky mineral notes accented by abundant ground white pepper, star anise and graphite details that play out on the finish. Agricola Punica est née en 2002 d’une joint-venture réunissant l’élite des œnologues et consultants italiens. Parmi une brochette d’acteurs vedettes citons l’œnologue Sebastiano Rosa, la Cantina di Santadi en Sardaigne, la Tenuta San Guido sous la direction du Marchese Nicoló Incisa della Rocchetta, le président de Santadi, Antonello Pilloni et l’œnologue conseil culte de la Toscane, Giacomo Tachis. Captivée par la symbiose parfaite entre le terroir sarde et le cépage carignan, cette équipe hors pair a décidé de fonder l’Agricola Punica dans le secteur sud-ouest de l’île, connu sous le nom de Sulcis Meridionale. Deux sites viticoles se partagent ce domaine de 150 hectares : Barrua et Narcao. Même si les vignes se trouvent dans l’aire de la DOC Carignano del Sulcis, le vin est classé IGT Isola dei Nuraghi. Les deux cuvées phares du domaine à l’heure actuelle se prénomment Barrua et Montessu, toutes deux élaborées à partir de carignan.
