Alongside French wines, Italian wines comprise some of our best sellers as their generosity and deliciousness are too difficult to resist! Though Sangiovese reigns supreme in Central Tuscany amongst the sub-regions of Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti Classico, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are sovereign in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, producing some of the world’s greatest Bordeaux blends that can rival those in France. However (and fortunately), despite some similarities with their Bordelais cousins, they remain distinctly Italian and often deliver a bit more spice and southern personality. Some of our favourite Italians hail from Piedmont, the home to finely chiseled Barolos and Barbarescos. But Italy’s greatness goes far beyond these classic regions and delicious and impressive wines can also be found in the Veneto, Fruili, Campania and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia just to name a few.
