The youngest I've tried from this brand name is the 1970 Don PX Convento Selección, the only one I tasted this time that fit into the classical canon, dense and serious with textbook aromas of carob beans, dark chocolate, tar and coffee and a relatively fresh palate with not so much alcohol and integrated sweetness considering it's supposed to have 510 grams of residual sugar.<br/>
Producer
Toro Albalá
Antonio Sanchez Prieto founded Bodegas Toro Albalá in 1844, in the village of Aguilar de la Frontera. By 1922, José Ma Toro Albalá restored the former electric power station of Aguilar where he moved the winery, and still is today. The Montilla-Moriles region is famous for Sherry, to create this fantastic concoction, the grapes are sun-dried into raisins before being pressed and fermented. Due to the incredible concentration of the juice, the wines are notably sweet but also wonderfully fresh. Don P.X. is their renowned Sherry, full of rich and deep flavors of raisins, figs and dates - the perfect pairing could be anything from blue cheese, to vanilla ice-cream, undoubtedly a must try. In addition to their wonderful wines, the winery’s tasting room holds an extensive wine library with more than 100,000 books.
