With fruit from Neive, the Piero Busso 2017 Barbaresco Albesani shows soft lines and an accessible style. But don't underestimate the complexity of this fruit; the wine reveals even more nuance and depth when given more time to open in the glass. The bouquet sports a tight embroidery of wild berry, rose, blue flower and hazelnut. I notice more licorice as the wine takes on more air.

The 2017 Barbaresco Albesani is silky, gracious and quite expressive. A year or two should help the nervy tannins soften in this mid-weight, rather nervy Barbaresco from the Albesani cru. There is certainly plenty of energy. White pepper, chalk, tobacco and dried leaves linger on a savory finish laced with floral and sweet red berry accents that appear as the wine continues to open with air.
