Domaine Charles Noëllat was a domaine located in Vosne-Romanée that was eventually purchased in 1988 by Lalou Bize-Leroy. This estate later became her eponymous domaine. At the time of the sale, the property totaled 12 hectares in size, though the original domaine had been much larger. Charles passed away in 1939, but the domaine stayed more or less intact with some vineyards or parcels of vineyards making their way to other family members such as Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat and J.J. Confuron. Though the quality of the Charles Noëllat wines at the time of the purchase were unremarkable, the vines were exceptional, particularly those in Romanée-Saint-Vivant, as they were old and were reproduced by massale selection (only a selection of the best vines that are already in the vineyard).
