What a glorious white with such length, complexity and character that changes all the time. Dried-apple, cream, pineapple and honey notes, as well as light tropical fruit and honeysuckle. It’s full-bodied and very tight and compact. The finish goes on for minutes with honey, flint, cream and apples. A dream. Of course, you are supposed to age this, but it’s so beautiful now.
Producer
Maison Joseph Drouhin
A family-owned brand, Maison Joseph Drouhin embodies the spirit of this historic Burgundy region. It was founded in 1880 by Chablis native, Joseph Drouhin. Quickly passing on the négociant business and domaine to his son, Maurice in 1918, the company went on to purchase the legendary Beaune Clos des Mouches vineyard. Today, the fourth generation of Drouhins is at the helm. As one of the largest estates in Burgundy, with around 73 hectares of vineyards, the Drouhins produce many different wines from close to 90 appellations. The family owns vineyards all over the region, in Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, but the majority are Premier and Grand Crus which encompass some of the finest terroir in Musigny and Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche. For many years the property followed biodynamic viticulture practices leading up to their official certification (ECOCERT) in 2009. In the end, Maison Joseph Drouhin offers a wide array of fascinating Burgundy wines, from white to red, each bottle provides a unique taste of the region.
