Re‑discover a château whose roots reach back to an ancient Benedictine priory, where monks cultivated vines for daily meals and religious rites.
Over the centuries, the estate evolved into Le Prieuré de Cantenac, earning a reputation that ultimately led to its classification as a Fourth Grand Cru in 1855. After periods marked by divisions and changes in ownership, its true renaissance began in 1951, when the visionary writer and renowned wine expert Alexis Lichine acquired the neglected vineyard and initiated its transformation into the estate we know today.
With the support of several partners and the guidance of Count Lur‑Saluces, he restored its historical identity and renamed it Château Prieuré‑Lichine in 1953.
