This is a new Prosecco producer for me. My friend from Hong Kong found it in a deli shop near Arezzo, Italy, when he was loading up on salami for dinner on Saturday night. The dense sparkling wine had much more flavor and interest than your normal Prosecco, which can be very commercial and industrial tasting at times. I am not a great fan of Prosecco because so many taste artificial, but this sparkler from Giavi really hit the spot over the weekend and cut nicely through the salami. It was dense and layered with lemon rind and peach skin, full and delicious with a fine bead and wondeful flavors. Drink now. 90 points
Producer
Giavi
Until our Italian buyer discovered this small Prosecco producer, the wonderful Giavi wines had gone almost undetected by our collectors and wine-lovers. Picturesquely situated on the top of the Monticella hill, the Giavi estate was founded in 1914. Today, under the ownership of the Zuanetti Cuscito family, the winery produces delicious, high-caliber Proseccos. Overlooking the town of Conegliano, just opposite of the historic castle, the wine-producing property stretches over 12 hectares wide. The young, dynamic and passionate, Marco Cuscito acts as Giavi’s estate manager and head vintner. Marco leads the production of four unique Proseccos, each a DOCG – Prosecco Superiore of Consegliano Valdobbiadene – which are marketed under the Prima Volta label. Their white sparkling wines are impressively dry, with hints of fruit, each bottle is a highly aromatic example of a new-age Prosecco Superiore. The estate undoubtedly succeeds in crafting some of the greatest fresh bubbly from Veneto, Giavi is the perfect choice to complement any of your Italian styled apertivi or appetizers.
