Domaine de La Passion Haut Brion
Domaine de la Passion Haut-Brion is the former name for what eventually became Domaine Allary Haut-Brion. Established in 1918, when the Touraille family purchased a small parcel of vineyard land. It is incredibly unique in that its 1.3 hectare of vines are actually located within the Haut-Brion vineyard. The original wine was sold as Haut-Brion La Passion, but after two legal actions against the Touraille family, they changed it to Domaine de la Passion Haut-Brion to avoid confusion. The domaine eventually was bought by the Allary family, and it is reported that in 1948 on the heels of World War II, the Allary family made an arrangement with Haut-Brion. Due to its incredibly small size, from 1954 to 1978, Haut-Brion produced the wine as part of its own, hence the wines labeled with Domaine de la Passion Haut-Brion during this time are actually Haut-Brion. This, however, stopped due to an EU law forbidding different wines being made in the same cellar if they were owned by different people. From that time forward, it was blended into Haut-Brion's second wine, Bahans Haut-Brion until 2007. In 2008, its owner tried to relaunch La Passion Haut-Brion under its original label, but due to contemporary law, it was blocked by the courts and its name became Domaine Allary Haut-Brion. It produced four vintages (2008-2011) before being bought by Prince Robert of Luxembourg in 2012. It has since been again used in their second wine, which is now called Le Clarence de Haut-Brion.
