Domaine Bruno Clair was part of the original Clair-Daü Domaine that his grandfather, Joseph Clair, created after World War I. It had been one of the region's larger domaines, at that time equaling 38 hectares. When Bruno began venturing out on his own, there were problems at the family domaine, so he decided to first acquire some vineyards on his own. In the mid-1980s, he was able to secure some of the family vineyards, he also hired Philippe Brun to help him in the cellar. The domaine now stretches over 24 hectares. Though it is based in Marsannay, he also produces wines in the neighboring regions of Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and other appellations from the Côte de Beaune, including Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru.
