Domaine Bernard Chave

Perhaps the greatest estate in the northern Rhône, Domaine Jean-Louis Chave performs among the best in France. Owned by the one of the most historic names in the wine world, the Chave family has been cultivating vines in the Rhône region since 1481. Today, the domaine is run by Jean-Louis Chave, who proudly represents the 16th generation. The family owns 14 hectares of vines in Hermitage, 10 of which are planted to Syrah and produce two red wines – Chave Hermitage, and a special red selection, Cuvée Cathelin which is only produced in top years. These wines are produced from the best plots in the entire appellation, covering the Hermitage Hill. The remaining 4 hectares are predominantly planted to Marsanne, but also Roussanne, both white varieties. Both the reds and whites are extraordinarily age-worthy, there is a complexity and beauty in each wine that is simply unrivaled by anything on the market.
