Clos l'Église 2023 150cl

AOC | Pomerol | Bordeaux | France
Producer
Clos l'Eglise
This estate is one of the oldest in Pomerol dating back to the 18th century. Then, it was once part of a much larger property including l'Eglise-Clinet, but they split in the 1940s due to a family division. The Moreau family owned the estate up until 1997, when they were forced to sell it. It was then purchased by Sylvaine Garcin-Cathiard, sister of Daniel Cathiard (of Smith Haut Lafitte). She also owns Heu-Bergey in Pessac-Léognan and Barde-Haut in Saint-Émilion. This 6-hectare estate produces 2 wines - Clos l'Eglise as well as its second wine, Esprit de l'Eglise. Like much of Pomerol, the soils are clay/gravel with some iron. Many of their vintages have been well received, particularly since they Garcin family took over. In May of 2011, Robert Parker described their estate and their 2010 vintage in these words, "The Garcin family has made so many top vintages of Clos l’Eglise since taking over this estate in the late nineties that it is difficult to say 2010 will turn out better than 2009, 2005, 2000 or 1998, but it is unquestionably a top-flight effort for both the vintage and the appellation.”
