Seamless and charming, the 2019 Clos des Jacobins bursts with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, loamy soil and spice box. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with ripe tannins and succulent acids, it will drink well on release.

Features a mix of mulled black currant and warmed fig notes that are coated liberally with espresso crema and roasted alder, while a humus echo lingers on the finish. This has muscle but is a touch shy on energy. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2032. 2,570 cases made, 50 cases imported. — JM

Clos des Jacobins
Clos des Jacobins is an 8.5-hectare estate located on the outskirts of Saint-Émilion going towards Libourne. It has had an excellent reputation since the 18th century when the Laveau family owned it. Later on, it was sold to the Cordier négociant house (who also owned Talbot and Gruaud Larose amongst other properties). The wines were well made though some have described them as lackluster. In 2001, it was sold to the perfumer, Gérald Frydman. He hired Hubert de Bouard from Château Angélus as a consultant and also restructured the vineyards and installed new drainage. He ended up reselling 3 years later to Bernard Decoster, the cousin of the owner of Fleur Cardinale. Today, Bernard's enthusiastic son, Thibault and his wife, Magali, are in charge.
