Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker
A property which was once known as Château Marquis d'Alesme-Becker, dates back to the 16th century, making it one of the oldest Bordeaux properties. Though it was originally called Château Marquis d'Alesme (as it is today), 'Becker' was added in the early 1800s when a Dutch wine merchant, Jean Bekker Terrlink, bought the property. Over the years, it had a series of owners including Jean-Claude Zuger who inherited the estate and who also owned neighboring, Maléscot St. Exupéry. In 2006, he sold the vineyards, but not the château to the Perrodo family, whose patriarch Hubert was a French businessman, polo player and art collector as well as creator, owner and leader of Perenco oil company. The family also owns Château Labégorce, formerly known as Labégorce Zédé, which they purchased in 2005. Major transformations have been going on at Marquis d'Alesme since the new ownership. All these changes in the cellar and vineyards have increased the quality and have also added a more contemporary feel to the wines. A château to watch.
