Château de Villegeorge

Château Villegeorge wines have always been highly sought-after, from as early on as the 18th century their wines were being sold at Classified Third Growth prices. From the 1880s, the estate was purchased by the Clauzel family who turned it into an exemplary vineyard. When a group of Bordeaux wine merchants established the Cru Bourgeois Classification in 1932, only six were awarded the coveted title of Cru Exceptionnel, among them was Château Villegeorge. The fine quality of their deep gravelly soils did not go unnoticed by Lucien Lurton who acquired the estate in 1973 and began to bring it to life again. In 1992, when he divided his châteaux amongst his children, Mr. Lurton put Villegeorge in the capable hands of his daughter Marie-Laure, a qualified oenologist who had already been part of the vinification since 1986. In 1997, many renovations were done and in 2003, it was classified as a Cru Bourgeois. Today, the château produces two wines - Villegeorge and a second label, L'Etoile de Villegeorge.
