Château de Côme has recently made a comeback on the Bordeaux wine scene, but the name however, has a long standing history made by the founding Saint-Estèphe family of the same name in the late 1880s. The château was even ranked as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the 1886 edition of Cock & Férét’s Bordeaux and its Wines, known as the “Bordeaux Bible.” After over a century of misgivings, the then neglected estate was purchased in 1997 by Baron Velge, owner of the remarkable Château Clauzet. Today, de Côme receives the same devotion as its famous older sibling, producing elegant wines marked by its origins. The 7-hectare vineyard planted to equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, has recently switched to organic farming. Crafted in the soul of the Médoc their wines are oriented to demonstrate the more delicate and feminine style of Saint-Estèphe. The Grand Vin, De Côme is a tannic and firmly structured example.
