Château Couhins-Lurton
Château Couhins-Lurton in the Graves forms part of the Vignobles André Lurton properties including La Louvière in Pessac-Léognan and Dauzac in Margaux. Up until the 1960s, however, it was owned by the Gasqueton family of Calon-Ségur. When they no longer wanted the property, Michel Delon of Léoville Las Cases worked as a liaison between them and André Lurton who then rented the property. He separated the estate and renamed his property Couhins-Lurton (while the other half retained the previous name, Couhins). He also decided to produce a white wine in 1967. He finally purchased the château in 1992. The château's 31 hectares are divided into both red and white varieties, with red varieties (Merlot 60%, Cabernet Sauvignon 40%) comprising of 19 hectares, while the remaining 6 hectares, are planted to 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Its white has a notable following and is known to be fresh with notes of lemon curd, apricot and hazelnut nuances. It also has a capacity to age. Its first red vintage was only produced in 2002 and despite its young age, it shows good promise.
