Dark in color, with impressively rich aromas of blackberry, cigar tobacco, licorice and spice. Full-bodied, with round, velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Very well done for this producer. Best after 2014. 3,665 cases made. ?JS

A strong effort from La Croix du Casse, with dense mulberry and black cherry fruit as well as some licorice, underbrush and spice, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, beefy mouthfeel, and moderate tannin. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
Producer
Château La Croix du Casse
The vineyard of Chateau La Croix du Casse extends to the southern tip of the Pomerol plateau, on soils composed of gravel and sand with a good proportion of iron dross. The property was acquired by the Castéja family, who also owns the négociant house, Borie Manoux, in 2005. It had been previously owned by the Audy family, the owners of the renowned Château Clinet. Philippe Castéja has since started to do work to modernize this property. The results were noticed as early as the 2009 vintage, in which Robert Parker awarded 90 points and stated that the wines have "jumped significantly in quality". La Croix du Casse’s wines are produced with a predominant amount of Merlot and a smattering of Cabernet Franc.
