The 2011 Hosanna has a gentle, lilting bouquet with brambly red fruit, peppercorns, pencil box and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly peppered entry, fine tannins, a little rigid at first though it loosens up with aeration. Cohesive with hints of dried blood on the aftertaste, this is a decent showing, and it does improve in the glass. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Château Hosanna
Château Hosanna sits just in front of the legendary Pétrus and between Château Lafleaur and Vieux Château Certan in Pomerol. Born out of a separation of property, Hosanna represents the elevated section of the former, Château Certan-Giraud, which was purchased in 1999 by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix. The name Hosanna means praise and acclamation, which further hints at the vineyards ideal setting on the Pomerol plateau. The red gravel soil has layers of clay; the vines are between 25 and 50 years of age, with an average of 40 years and quite a high percentage of Cabernet Franc (30%). Since the acquisition, extensive work has been carried out in the vineyard, including the installation of new drainage and wells. Château Hosanna combines grace with complexity, and according to the Moueix family, the estate could become, thanks to the gentle dash of the Cabernet Franc, a feminine equivalent to Pétrus.
