Originally part of Château Desmirail, Château Tayac only became independent in 1891. Its 37 hectares of vines are located along the gravelly ridges in Soussans, a sub-commune of Margaux. It has been owned by the Portet family for four generations. The vineyard is planted to a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) followed by Merlot (40%) and a smattering of Petit Verdot (5%). The vines are cultivated using the Cousinié method, and the grapes are harvested both by machine and by hand.
