Obwohl da sicherlich locker zwanzig weitere Jahre Garantie drin liegen. Diese Flasche: 19/20. Also geht es aufwärts.

While the bottled 2000 still reveals a certain sternness in addition to tough tannin, it is sweeter and more expansive and flavorful. The dark ruby/purple color is saturated and impressive. With coaxing, notes of lead pencil shavings, black currants, earth, cedar, and spice box emerge from a relatively closed, firm, medium to full-bodied wine or, as the French would say, a classic vin de garde (for long-term cellaring). Although austere, it is a classic, authoritatively flavored effort that requires patience. I would like to see sweeter tannin and more flesh built into the mid-palate, but there is no denying the classicism and purity of this 2000. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025.<br/>

This is a bit grainy in feel, with ample cedar- and juniper-lined tannins carrying a mix of red and black currant, bay leaf and black tea flavors along before a tangy sanguine note captures the finish. Has character and charm, if a bit outpaced by the pack in general.—2000 Bordeaux blind retrospective (December 2015). Drink now through 2018. 8,333 cases made.
Producer
Château Rauzan Segla
In 1994, Château Rauzan-Ségla was acquired by the Wertheirmer family. The Wertheirmers, who are also responsible for the famous Chanel perfume business, worked to reinforce the Second Growth’s status and rank. With a long history dating back to 1661, the château owes its name to founder, Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan and its reputation to the many successful owners over these past few centuries. Today, the Wertheirmers’ thorough renovations have further ensured the estate’s outstanding quality through sustainable farming techniques and modernizing their vinification facilities. Using temperature-controlled stainless steel for fermentation, their wines are then aged in 60% new oak barrels for 18 months. Rauzan-Ségla is one of the most appreciated châteaux in Margaux, specifically for their signature bouquet of aromas and finesse. With the assistance of John Kolasa, former enologist at the family’s Saint-Émilion estate, Château Canon, the property produces complex 2ème Grand Cru Classé wines. The flagship, Rauzan-Ségla is a glorious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
