Blackberries, dried herbs, wet earth, graphite and tar on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine tannins. Classically styled and fresh. Drink after 2024.
91 Wine Spectator
Juicy and direct, showing a solid core of crushed red and black currant fruit mixed with tobacco, bay leaf, pepper and singed alder notes. The finish is carried by a nice iron streak, which adds focus and cut. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2033. 6,587 cases made. — JM

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron
A Second Growth marked by its Cabernet-dominated full-bodied reds, Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is one of Bordeaux’s most famed Super Seconds. Founded in the late 17th century, the château was built in 1851 and boasts a breathtaking view of the Gironde Estuary. The fine-wine branch of the AXA insurance company, AXA Millésimes acquired the property in 1987 bringing in owner of Château Lynch-Bages, Jean-Michel Cazes shortly after to run the estate. Together with major renovations of the estate and the Cazes’ management, excellence was soon restored. Retiring in 2000, Christian Seely assumed Cazes’ important role as managing director. Today, their signature muscular wines are a culmination of years of precision and craftsmanship, from vineyard to cellar. Pichon-Longueville Baron is the rich and layered Grand Vin, this five-star wine gains in depth with at least 10 years of cellaring. The second wine, Les Tourelles de Longueville was introduced in 1986 and similarly conveys the château’s classic powerful, but elegant style.
