Château Péby Faugères
One of the quirkiest properties in Bordeaux whose winery is reminiscent of those in Napa or Chile. It was designed by Mario Botta, a Swiss architect from Mendrisio, and features what appears to be a wine or martini-glass cut out of the side. It is called the “Cathedral of Wine”. The property lies on the eastern edge of the Saint-Émilion appellation and was inherited in 1987 by Pierre-Bernard (“Péby”) Guisez, a well-known film director. He and his wife, Corinne made it a mission to turn the estate around and invested heavily. He died suddenly 10 years later and his wife, not wanting to continue with the work herself and knowing that her daughters did not want to follow suit, eventually sold it to Silvio Denz, a Swiss businessman. Following the sale of Château de Faugères, Silvio decided to separate the two top wines it made - Faugères and Péby Faugères - into two distinct properties. Péby Faugères was created by Corinne in honour of her late husband and is 100% Merlot from what is considered their best parcel.
