Shows the vintage's austere edge, with alder and iron notes pinching a bit, but the core is solid, featuring dark plum, black cherry and currant notes that have meshed well. A bright sanguine thread runs through the finish. Best from 2017 through 2021. –JM

The second wine of Lynch-Bages, the 2012 Echo is a light to medium-bodied, slightly one-dimensional style of wine with ripe blackcurrant and cherry fruit. It does not offer much depth or body, and its soft, easygoing finish borders on innocuous, but it is pleasant. It should be drunk over the next 5-7 years.
Producer
Château Lynch Bages
Overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Lynch-Bages is located on the outskirts of Pauillac, on the Plateau de Bages, one of the most beautiful gravelly rises in the appellation. The estate formerly belonged to the Lynch family, originally from Ireland, and was purchased by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1934. Starting in the 80’s, Jean-Michel Cazes undertook an in-depth modernization of Lynch-Bages, while preserving the former 19th century vat room. This a area is a rare example of traditional winemaking equipment that was used in Médoc many years ago. In 2006, Jean-Michel handed over management to his son Jean-Charles, and took on the project of breathing new life into the adjacent Village de Bages. The wines of Lynch-Bages reflect the family tradition of generosity and excellence. Lynch-Bages combines structure, finesse and elegance, offering generous aromas in its youth and developing deeper complexities with bottle age. The second wine, Echo de Lynch-Bages is round, soft and seductive in its youth, with outstanding potential for bottle age. The estate also produces a fine Bordeaux white, Blanc de Lynch-Bages, which is a lively and crisp wine with fresh fruits and white flower aromas that dance with delicate woody and vanilla notes.
