This tiny garagiste estate of 7.5 acres produces fewer than 1,000 cases of a 90% Merlot / 10% Cabernet Franc blend. Stephane Derenoncourt is the consultant, which almost guarantees the fabulous quality that has been emerging routinely from this tiny property. The 2004 Lucia offers super-ripe blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with notes of charcoal fires, terrific texture, and a flamboyant, modern-styled personality. Complex and authoritatively flavored, it should drink well for 12-15 years.

Château Lucia
Château Lucia is a small 3-hectare Saint-Émilion property that was originally called Château Lucie. The 2001 vintage marks the first one under Lucia. It is owned by Michel Bortolossi who immediately hired Stéphane Derenoncourt to make the wines. Its vines are some of the oldest in Bordeaux, with some dating as far back as the turn of the century. Château Lucia’s wine is one of the most handcrafted in Bordeaux, with meticulous hand-sorting before fermentation. Following the wine’s fermentation in small, open-top oak tanks, it is aged in French oak barrels, 60% new. Like many of Derenoncourt's wines, Lucia is modernly styled with notable concentration and layers of rich fruit and spice.
