Firm and tannic, supple underneath, offering polished plum, prune, cedar and tobacco aromas and flavors. Beautifully balanced and open, with enough to echo everything on the finish. Start drinking between 2000 and 2005.--Latour ? Pomerol vertical.
89 Robert Parker
For the first time since 1982, Latour a Pomerol is of star quality. In fact, the 1989 resembles the 1982, being slightly less concentrated, but more tannic and alcoholic. Deep ruby/purple with a full-intensity bouquet of spices, new wood, plums, and cassis, this expansively flavored, seemingly sweet (because of the fruit's ripeness), full-flavored wine has considerable tannin in the finish, giving rise to the perplexing question as to when it will be at its best. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2015. Tasted five times. Consistent notes.

90: Fassprobe (17/20): Animalische Aromenpalette. Reicher, üppiger Wein mit grosser Zukunft. 98: Aufhellendes Granatrot, relativ grosser Wasserrand.

Château Latour à Pomerol is another property that fits under the renowned JP Moueix family umbrella. While the ownership of the estate resides with a charitable foundation, the Fondation de Foyers de Charite de Chateauneuf de Galaure, Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix has acted as manager of the château for over 40 years. Along with the family’s other top Bordeaux châteaux, Latour à Pomerol has become one of the leading Pomerol vineyards. The 8-hectare vineyard is made up of two parcels: the first, Les Grandes Vignes, is situated close to the church of Pomerol; the second is located on the western side of the Pomerol Plateau. The charming cru, like many Right Bank wines, remained relatively unknown until the budding wine critic, Robert Parker wrote about it in the early 1990s. Today, Château Latour à Pomerol’s wines offer a more opulent expression of the appellation, producing supple, ripe and richly plummy Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends.
