Château La Confession
Created in 2001, Château La Confession lies in Saint-Émilion, but close to the Libourne border. It is one of the youngest properties in Bordeaux. La Confession is owned by Jean-Philippe Janoueix, a dynamic visionary who also owns Château Croix Mouton and Château La Croix Saint Georges. Known for his more creative ways of vinifying, he developed cigar-shaped barrels for ageing because he feels that they enable the wines to better digest their lees, giving the added richness and complexity. Half his wine is matured in these, while the other half are matured in standard sized Bordeaux barrels. Starting with the 2005 vintage, he also began heating his barrels before filling them with wine for a gentler extraction. From his 7.5 hectares, he produces two wines - his flagship, La Confession, as well as a second wine called Château Barreau.
