A lesser known and no longer existing château, most likely due to its micro-size of 2.5 hectares, Château La Clusière has formidable roots. In 1997, the Valette family sold the La Clusière and Pavie to Gérard Perse. The small vineyard was planted with 100% old vine Merlot, that had an average age of around 55 years yet some significantly older. The plot was located on Saint-Émilion's plateau, where the soil was similar to Pavie’s, consisting of clay-limestone soil over a layer of limestone with marine fossils. The 2001 vintage was La Clusière’s last, its vines were then mixed in with those of Pavie.
